HC Deb 02 August 1951 vol 491 c227W
Mr. Butcher

asked the Minister of Health if he can give an estimate of the number of persons, including deserters from the armed forces, living in this country either without national identity cards, or with cards which are materially inaccurate.

Mr. Marquand

No estimate can be given of this number, but it is believed to be very small.

Mr. Butcher

asked the Minister of Health the number of persons, both part-time and whole-time engaged upon work in connection with national identity cards and records relating thereto.

Mr. Marquand

Six hundred and seventy whole-time and 22 part-time at the headquarters offices for England and Wales and Northern Ireland. Figures cannot be given for the local offices because these are also food offices and the same staff does both classes of work.
