HC Deb 02 August 1951 vol 491 cc272-3W
Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Postmaster-General if, in view of his expressed intention shortly to relax the regulations prohibiting drivers of postal vehicles from smoking when on duty, he will first inquire from the police authorities how far this practice is estimated to contribute to road accidents.

Mr. Hobson

The regulations have already been relaxed. Informal inquiries made of interested authorities have brought to light no evidence that smoking contributes to any marked extent to road accidents.
