HC Deb 26 April 1951 vol 487 c83W
47. Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many horses and ponies were slaughtered for food in the United Kingdom in 1949 and 1950, respectively.

Mr. T. Williams

I regret that the information is not available.

53. Mr. Hurd

asked the Minister of Agriculture what cost was incurred by the Central Office of Information in producing the film entitled "The Farmer's Horse"; and why it is considered necessary to spend public money to encourage farmers to make use of horses.

Mr. T. Williams

The expenditure incurred by the Central Office of Information in the making of this film was £4,013 of which £1,800 was defrayed by a grant received through the British Horse Society. The object of the film is to demonstrate to farmers the extent to which there are jobs which could still be done economically by the horse as an auxiliary to the tractor.
