HC Deb 26 April 1951 vol 487 cc99-100W
Mr. Baker

asked the Minister of Food what is the cost to the country in storage and in loss through rats, rot and deterioration, of barley and other grains stored in aircraft hangars and other requisitioned temporary accommodation in Norfolk in 1950.

Mr. Webb

The average cost of storing grain in Ministry depots on airfield sites and other requisitioned premises is about 5½d. a ton per week. I cannot estimate the loss of grain from the particular causes mentioned but my latest information shows that losses from all causes do not exceed one-half of one per cent. of the grain stored.
