HC Deb 23 April 1951 vol 487 c6W
56. Mr. Wyatt

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why it is proposed to close down the digest magazine "Echo" although it is largely self-supporting and has a wide circulation in Italy, France and Holland.

Mr. Younger

The average monthly circulation of these magazines during the last quarter of 1950 was 61,711. A saving of about £20,000 a year will be achieved by their discontinuance; in other words, we are losing 6½d. on each copy. We are obliged by the pressing need for economy to do without means of publicity which are expensive in relation to the results achieved; and the "Echo" series is one of these.
