HC Deb 19 April 1951 vol 486 c185W
61. Mr. A. Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware of the growing practice adopted by ticket touts at football cup finals, boxing tournaments, etc., in selling price-marked tickets at 300 per cent. and 400 per cent. above their normal value; and, as these people are not paying the Entertainments Duty due on these tickets, thus evading the law, whether he will consider prosecutions in each case.

Mr. Jay

I am aware of the price referred to in the first part of the Question. As regards the second part, the question of proceedings depends on the circumstances of the particular transaction and there are obvious difficulties in obtaining suitable evidence.
