asked His Majesty's Government what is their policy in regard to the issue of special stamps and coins to commemorate the Festival of Britain.

THE MINISTER OF CIVIL AVIATION (LORD PAKENHAM)

With the gracious assent of His Majesty the King, there will be issued on the 3rd of May next, two special British Postage Stamps of the 2½d. and 4d. denominations designed to commemorate the Festival of Britain. In addition, His Majesty has graciously approved fresh designs for the 2s. 6d., 5s., 10s. and £1 British postage stamps in the permanent series and these will be placed on sale on the opening day of the Festival.

As regards coins, it has been decided to make one special issue only. His Majesty has graciously approved the issue of a five shilling piece with the Royal Effigy and Titles and the words "Five Shillings" on the Obverse, and the design by Pistrucci of St. George slaying the Dragon on the Reverse. In place of the usual milling on the edge will be the inscription:

"MDCCCL1 CIVIUM INDUSTRIA FLORET CIVITAS MCMLI"

The coin also will be issued on the opening day of the Festival.
