§ Mr. BottomleyShort weight in the sale of coal is an offence under the Weights and Measures Act, 1889, and, in the case of sales of quantities not exceeding two hundredweights, also under local by-laws. Annual reports submitted to the Board of Trade by the inspectors of weights and measures of local authorities show that numerous checks are made on deliveries of coal.
