§ Mr. P. Robertsasked the Minister of Health, in view of the fact that in the four and a half years up to 31st March, 1939, Sheffield built 19,661 houses, and in the five years up to 31st March, 1950, only 4,084 permanent and 2,066 temporary houses, if he is aware that there is 389W sufficient building capacity within the City of Sheffield and roundabout it to cope with licences for 1,000 extra houses, and will he therefore now grant these licences.
§ Mr. BevanAs I have already informed the hon. and gallant Member, the allocations made to the local authority are the maximum numbers warranted by their building capacity but I am ready to consider further allocations to the City of Sheffield if the progress with existing commitments so justifies.
