Mr. Manningham-Buller

asked the Attorney-General if he will publish a table showing the financial effect of the proposals contained in the Administration of Justice (Pensions) Bill in relation to the judicial officers referred to in the First Schedule, showing the present pension and the reduced pension, the amount of the widow's pension and the amount of the children's pension both where there is a widow and where there is not a widow, where there is one child.

NOTE 1.—The figures shown in the Table are maxima; shillings and pence are ignored throughout. The amounts shown as lump sums and death gratuities are the full amounts payable under clause (2). The appropriate contribution for the widows' and children's pensions will be recovered by a reduction in the amounts shown in either of the two columns 5 and 6. Under clause (8) the appropriate contribution is one year's pension, i.e. column 4.
NOTE 2.—The Permanent Secretary to the Lord Chancellor is omitted, as the present holder of this office is pensionable under the Superannuation Acts, as also are certain other officers holding offices in the Third Schedule of the Supreme Court of Judicature (Consolidation) Act, 1925.
NOTE 3.—The offices of Assistant Master of the Supreme Court and Taxing Master, High Court in Bankruptcy, are omitted. There are none of the former at present. The work formerly done by the latter is now performed by Masters of the Supreme Court (Taxing Office).
NOTE 4.—There are no statutory rates of pension for the Members of the Lands Tribunal for England and Wales. Their pensions are determined by the Lord Chancellor, with the concurrence of the Treasury, under Section 2 (6) of the Lands Tribunal Act, 1949. (See Clause 13 (2) of the Bill.) No appointments have yet been made to the Lands Tribunal for Scotland, and the salaries have not been determined.
NOTE 5.—The District Registrar of Liverpool is also Registrar of Liverpool County Court.
NOTE 6.—The office of stipendiary magistrate pensionable under section 455 of the Burgh Police (Scotland) Act, 1892, is omitted; there is no holder of the office at present.
