93. Mr. Cooperasked the Minister of Health what action his Department are taking to ensure that radio-active effluent discharged from the Atomic Research Establishment into the River Thames shall not adversely affect London's water supply.
§ Mr. BevanThe Establishment conforms with conditions in regard to the amount of radio-activity in the effluent that are determined on the advice of the Medical Research Council. I am advised that these conditions provide a very wide margin of safety. My Department keeps in close touch with the Ministry of Supply, the Thames Conservancy and the Metropolitan Water Board to ensure that there is no risk of the prescribed limit being exceeded.
