HC Deb 21 November 1950 vol 481 cc26-7W
81. Mr. Baldwin

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the amount of the Excise Duty paid into the Exchequer for sugar refined in the season 1949–50 from British grown sugar beet.

Mr. Gaitskell

The exact figure cannot be stated since receipts of duty cannot be related to the sugar refined in any particular period, but it is estimated that the amount is nearly £2 million.
