§ Mr. Osborneasked the Minister of Food if he is aware that two shiploads of imported onions in Liverpool are to be auctioned on Wednesday, 15th November; and, in view of the protest made to him by the National Farmers' Union, if he will make a statement on the position.
§ Mr. WebbI understand that two ships carrying onions will arrive in Liverpool on Friday, 17th November, but that no arrangements have yet been made for the supplies to be auctioned. Under the arrangements which I described in my reply to the hon. Member for Huntingdon (Mr. Renton) on 6th November any supplies of onions arriving in this country before 1st December will be held in Customs control until that date.
