§ Mr. G. R. StraussThe restrictions on the supply of zinc apply from 1st October. This measure of restriction was necessary in order to preserve the country's stocks at a reasonable level, but I appreciate that to relate allocation to usage in 1949 without taking into account developments since then or the relative importance to the economy of the different uses of zinc can only be a stop-gap measure. Some temporary adjustments have been made for November to meet urgent cases and I have the matter under immediate review.
