§ 132. Mr. Deedesasked the President of the Board of Trade why a priority demand has been imposed by control in respect of paper requirements of His Majesty's Stationery Office during the current 93W period; why this allotment represents an increase of 40 per cent. on previous allocations; and whether he is aware of the serious consequences of this increased demand on the book publishing trade.
Mr. H. WilsonThe increase in the allotment of mechanical printing paper to His Majesty's Stationery Office during the current period amounts to only some 5 per cent. as compared with their consumption during the period ending on 4th November. This is not excessive having regard to the heavy demands now arising and has been provided for by allowing the mills to increase their production by a corresponding amount. There should therefore be no reduction in the total supplies available to other users.
