GriffithsThe conditions vary between different territories, but broadly permission, which is in the discretion of the Colonial Government, is required for all officers of the Colonial Service on first appointment to African 161W territories. In granting or withholding permission the main considerations are the availability of suitable accommodation and the nature of the duties which the officer may be called upon to perform. The same principles apply to American technicians.
