§ 83. Mr. S. Silvermanasked the Minister of Labour how many registered dock workers in the Port of London on 21st April last were not members of a trade union affiliated to the Trades Union Congress.
§ Mr. IsaacsI have no information on this point.
§ 84. Mr. S. Silvermanasked the Minister of Labour to what extent agreements now in force relating to the employment of dock labourers provide for trade union recognition and for the employment exclusively of trade union labour.
§ Mr. IsaacsThere is a National Joint Council for the Port Transport Industry constituted by agreement between the National Association of Port Employers on the one hand, and the Transport and General Workers Union, the National Union of General and Municipal Workers, the National Amalgamated Stevedores and Dockers, and the Scottish Transport and General Workers Union on the other. It is clear, therefore, that the port employers recognise these unions as representing dock labourers. I am unaware of any agreements between these parties which provide for the employment exclusively of trade union labour.
