§ 32. Mr. Bossomasked the Minister of Fuel and Power the number of persons now employed on all work required in connection with petrol coupons, and the annual cost to the taxpayer, including the rent for their office accommodation.
§ Mr. P. Noel-Baker1,862 civil servants are employed in my Department on petrol rationing, and 480 in the Ministry of Transport. The annual cost of their salaries is approximately £785,000. The cost of accommodation, postage and stationery is borne by the Departments responsible for common services, but it is estimated to be about £200,000. The cost for Northern Ireland is £62,000, but I do not know the numbers of their staff.
