§ 122. Mr. A. Edward Daviesasked the Minister of Transport what progress has been made by the British Transport Commission in the introduction of area schemes for road passenger transport as provided for in the Transport Act, 1947; and what are the reasons for delay.
§ Mr. BarnesThe British Transport Commission submitted to me at the end of January a scheme prepared in accordance with Section 63 of the Transport Act, 1947, relating to the northern area of England, and I have this scheme under examination. The Commission have not submitted to me a scheme for any other area. The Act requires the Commission to consult local authorities and other persons concerned before submitting a scheme to me, and the preparation of schemes and their examination is necessarily a complicated and lengthy matter.
