HC Deb 04 May 1950 vol 474 c217W
106. Mr. Alport

asked the Minister of Health how many sewerage schemes in rural areas and in urban areas were postponed when the decision to cut capital expenditure was made in 1949; what was the total estimated expenditure involved in such schemes, respectively; and whether he is now able to say when authority to start on these schemes will be given.

Mr. Bevan

Information in the form requested by the hon. Member is not available. The total demand for sewerage particularly in the rural areas is, due to past neglect, greater than can be met immediately out of the resources available. The schemes submitted by local authorities have therefore to be considered with due regard to their relative urgency. This review is a continuous process and I shall continue to authorise further schemes to the fullest extent practicable.
