HC Deb 04 May 1950 vol 474 cc216-7W
84. Dr. King

asked the Minister of Health whether he will take steps to transfer to national charge the cost of maintaining distressed British persons arriving from abroad at Southampton and temporarily cared for there, which at present falls wholly on the Southampton Welfare Services Committee.

Mr. Bevan

The cost already falls partly on the Exchequer since persons not able to pay the local authority for their accommodation receive assistance from the National Assistance Board.
