§ 86. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what progress has been made towards the implementation of the proposals in the Coussey Report on constitutional development in the Gold Coast.
Mr. GriffithsThe Legislative Council of the Gold Coast has now agreed to the general lines of the new Constitution, as set out in the Coussey Report and His Majesty's Government's statement on it. Select Committees and Commissions have been set up to deal with various questions bearing on the implementation of the proposals. The budget for the coming financial year will provide for a reorganisation of the structure of government in readiness for the setting up of ministries. The new constitutional instruments are being prepared.
