§ 69. Mr. T. Reidasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what plans he has for the planting and cultivating scientifically in Malaya large areas of land with cocoa.
Mr. GriffithsEnergetic steps are being taken to pave the way for large-scale development of cocoa in Malaya. These include the appointment of a special cocoa officer; the expansion of experimental areas at agricultural stations and estates from five acres before the war to 400 acres at the end of 1949; and the provision, with assistance under the Colonial Development and Welfare Act, of facilities at Kew and in Malaya for raising imported seeds under supervision and quarantine conditions.
