§ 3. Mr. Carsonasked the Postmaster-General why the cheap telephone rate for public call boxes commences at 5.30 p.m., whereas this facility for a subscriber starts at 6.30 p.m.; and whether he will take steps to eradicate this anomaly.
§ Mr. Ness EdwardsCheap calls from public call offices are admitted from 5.30 p.m. so as to dispose of some of the more complicated traffic before 6.30 p.m. This arrangement helps to avoid delay in connecting cheap calls from subscribers' telephones after 6.30 p.m. and I am satisfied that it operates to the benefit of subscribers generally.
