§ Mr. StokesThe building which we have agreed to take on lease was gutted by fire during the war and has to be completely reconstructed by the owner. This work is likely to cost in the region of £200,000 and it is bound to take a long time. In addition to the food office, the building will accommodate the offices of five other Government Departments. The owner is willing to expedite the work and it is hoped to provide for occupation of the building by stages, but until tenders have been obtained, it is too early to say what can be done to shorten the time. A further search of the district has failed to produce alternative premises.
