§ Mr. Noel-BakerMy Department took control of the opencast mining of coal on 1st April, 1945. It is estimated that from that date until 31st March, 1950, the cost, including establishment charges, depreciation, overheads, compensation, and restoration of the ground, will amount to £117,300,000. The revenue will amount to £103,500,000. The average cost per ton over the five years has been 44s. 10d.
