§ 73. Captain Duncanasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the pre-war price of a seine net used by fishermen was£5 14s. per net and is now£32 1ls. 6d.; and what steps he is taking to reduce this price.
§ Mr. RhodesThere has been a considerable increase in the price of seine nets since 1939, though my information is that the increase is not generally so great as that shown by the figures quoted by the hon. and gallant Member. The present high prices are mainly due to the great increase in the cost of the imported raw materials for the nets.
