HC Deb 10 March 1950 vol 472 c15W
Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he will give an estimate of the loss to the revenue in the current financial year if Super tax had not been payable, taken in conjunction with Income Tax on any income in excess of a rate of 15s. and 17s. 6d. respectively in the £;

(2) if he will give an estimate of the loss to the revenue if, respectively, no tax had been collected on undistributed profits in the current year, or if they had been collected at half the amount set by Acts of Parliament;

(3) if he will give an estimate of the loss in revenue in the current financial year if death duties had not been paid in excess of 60 per cent. and 70 per cent. respectively on any one estate.

Sir S. Cripps

I cannot undertake to say what the yield of revenue would have been in hypothetical circumstances. The hon. and gallant Member will no doubt be able to form his own conclusions from the information published in the Annual Reports of the Commissioners of Inland Revenue and in the National Income White Paper.
