CrippsThe number of staff wholly employed on Purchase Tax matters by the Customs and Excise Department is approximately 900 but no precise figure of staff partially employed in dealing with the tax can be given because in many instances this work is done in widely varying degrees by the staff of the Department along with their other duties. It is accordingly not possible to give a separate figure for the cost of administering and collecting this tax.
