The production of oil from coal, by carbonisation and by synthesis, has been studied in this country for a considerable period by the Fuel Research Station of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and by industry. The results of the Department's work have been published. The work at the Fuel Research Station on synthesis is at present being enlarged.
