Mr. Marplesasked the Prime Minister if he will appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the working of the Rent Restriction Act, 1939, in view of the fact that this Act was still operating on 15th June, 1950, when the £ was worth 10s. 6d., as compared with the purchasing power of 20s. when the Act was passed.
§ The Prime MinisterNo. The working of the Rent Restrictions Acts was the subject of inquiry by the Ridley Committee and I would refer the hon. Member to their Report (Cmd. 6621).
