Lieut.-Colonel Bromley-Davenportasked the Minister of Health the reasons for the delay in reopening the Cranford Lodge Hospital for the Chronic Sick in Knutsford; whether he is aware of the great hardship being caused by the lack of hospital beds in the district; and whether the hospital will be reopened at once.
§ Mr. BevanI have considered the matter fully in consultation with the regional hospital board, but having regard to the estimate of expenditure for the current year in which the cost of this unit was not included, I am afraid I cannot authorise the opening this year.
