HC Deb 04 July 1950 vol 477 cc16-7W
62. Mr. Amery

asked the President of the Board of Trade what arrangements have been made in connection with the prospective purchase of timber from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics to secure to British vessels a proportion of the carrying of this timber; and what is to be the proportion.

Mr. Bottomley

In accordance with normal procedure, chartering will be effected by the Timber Control in the open market. The proportion of British ships employed will depend on offers received from British shipowners.
