Glynasked the Postmaster-General how many telephones have been installed at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Harwell, and its subsidiary branches in the Oxford telephone area since January, 1949; whether there are still demands for more instruments that 167W have not yet been met; and when it is likely that the mechanics and engineers concerned with these installations will be freed to attend to other work within the Oxford telephone area.
§ Mr. Ness EdwardsSix hundred and sixty new telephone stations have been provided since 1st January, 1949; others will be required as new buildings are completed. The engineering staff employed at Harwell consists of one maintenance engineer, stationed permanently, and one fitter who goes there when necessary. I cannot say when it will be possible to free the latter completely for other work.
