HC Deb 04 December 1950 vol 482 c25W
81. Mr. Poole

asked the Minister of Transport if he will take steps to make Road Haulage Wages Orders and other regulations at present applicable only to vehicles operating under "A" and "B" licences, also applicable to vehicles operating under a "C" licence.

Mr. Isaacs

I have been asked to reply. No. Vehicles specified in "C" licences are for the carriage of goods in connection only with the trade or business carried on by the holders. Large numbers of workers employed in connection with such vehicles are covered by Wages Councils and collective agreements applicable to the trades concerned. For any such workers for whom a minimum rate of wage has not been fixed by or under any other enactment, there is procedure under Part II of the Road Haulage Wages Act, 1938, under which complaints as to unfair wages are referred for settlement to the Industrial Court. If my hon. Friend will let me know what other regulations he has in mind, I will look into the matter and write to him.
