HC Deb 04 December 1950 vol 482 c13W
88. Mr. Donner

asked the Minister of Supply whether he is aware that every aluminium foundry in the country is having its supplies of aluminium cut to 60 per cent. of requirement as a result of Russian outbidding for European supplies; and what measures he proposes to take to safeguard supplies of aluminium and aluminium castings for the defence programme.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

There is a shortage of aluminium scrap which is affecting the supply of secondary aluminium used by foundries. The shortage in the United Kingdom has not been caused by Russian buying in Europe. Supplies of both virgin and secondary aluminium are fully adequate to meet the defence programme.
