§ Mr. John MacLeodasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what development has taken place in the Highlands of Scotland since they were designated as a development area; and when he will be able to make a full statement on this subject.
Mr. McNeilIn the part of the Highlands which has been made a development area, sites have been selected for industrial development, a few industrial firms have expanded or are planning to expand their activities, and progress has been made with the improvement of basic services including water and drainage schemes to a value of £600,000, and with the Affric and Fannich Hydro-Electric Schemes. Fuller details about developments in the Highlands as a whole will be given in the White Paper on Industry and Employment in Scotland in 1949, which I hope to present to Parliament shortly.
