HL Deb 25 October 1949 vol 164 cc1241-2WA
THE EARL OF MANSFIELD

asked His Majesty's Government whether they will state the total revenue received by the Exchequer from the excise duties levied upon Scots whiskey in each of the financial years 1938–1939, 1945–1946, 1946–1947, 1947–1948 and 1948–1949, together with the total amount derived, during the years 1945–1949 inclusive, from purchase tax upon Harris and all other Scottish-made tweeds, respectively.

LORD PAKENHAM

His Majesty's Government regret that the information is not available, and they do not consider that the amount of work involved in making the calculations would be justified, especially as the results would in many respects be arbitrary.

House adjourned at two minutes before eleven o'clock.
