Graham-Littleasked the Minister of Education if he is aware that grammar school masters in Nottinghamshire, as in an example submitted to him, are expected to fill in record cards in respect of their pupils and are restricted to award 105W a definite percentage of pupils to each grade, irrespective of their ability; what is the ultimate destination of these records; and whether he has considered the possibility of their misuse, causing injury to the individual concerned; and whether he will stop this procedure.
§ Mr. TomlinsonThe arrangements for school record cards introduced by the Nottinghamshire local education authority are known to me. Grammar school masters are not required to allocate fixed percentages of their pupils to particular grades. The record cards are confidential and are retained by the school when a pupil leaves. School records were dealt with in Circular 151, of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy. I have no intention of stopping their use.
