HL Deb 18 October 1949 vol 164 c937WA
THE EARL OF MANSFIELD

asked His Majesty's Government whether they will state, for each of the financial years 1945 to 1949 inclusive, the amount contributed by Scotland to the Imperial Exchequer, giving, where possible, separate figures for direct and indirect taxation, together with the relevant percentages represented of the total income of the Exchequer.

THE MINISTER OF CIVIL AVIATION (LORD PAKENHAM)

His Majesty's Government regret that the information is not available, and they do not consider that the amount of work which would be involved in making the calculation would be justified especially as any apportionment of revenue between Scotland and the rest of Great Britain would necessarily be in many respects arbitrary.
