HC Deb 23 November 1949 vol 470 cc34-5W
60. Mr. Solley

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty what is his estimate of the value of newly-constructed shipping for home demand and repairs of British shipping, respectively, during 1949; and whether he will estimate similarly for 1950.

Mr. W. Edwards:

The value of new merchant ships to be completed during 1949 for United Kingdom owners is estimated to be £68 million, and the corresponding figure for 1950 is estimated to be approximately the same. The value of repairs to British shipping which will have been carried out in United Kingdom shipyards during 1949 is estimated to be about £70 million. For 1950 the value of repairs is expected to be somewhat lower but no figure can at present be given.
