asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many Germans from the British zone of Germany are known to have sought asylum in the Soviet zone since the end of the war; and what is the average number which has entered the Soviet zone each month this year.

Mr. Mayhew:

There is no evidence that any Germans from the British zone have sought asylum in the Soviet zone since the end of the war.

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many German refugees whose homes were in the Soviet zone are known to have entered the British zone of Germany from the Soviet zone since the end of the war; and what is the average number which has entered the British zone each month this year.

Mr. Mayhew:

The number of refugees previously resident in the Soviet zone who had registered as entering the British zone between the end of the war and the 1st October, 1949, was approximately 513,200. The present average monthly influx is estimated at 3,000.
