HC Deb 21 November 1949 vol 470 c6W
67. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power, in view of the desirability of improving housing conditions in the mining areas, if he will discuss with the National Coal Board the question of allowing miners working in privately-owned mines to be considered as tenants of houses specially erected for miners.

Mr. Robens:

The only houses specially erected for miners with whose allocation the National Coal Board are concerned are some of those built by the Scottish Special Housing Association. These are for miners transferred from coalfields where the reserves of coal are declining. The question of which miners should be offered tenancy of these houses is, it seems to me, certainly a matter of day-to-day administration in which my right hon. Friend would not think it right to intervene.
