§ 90. Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Minister of Labour how many disabled men in Newport were receiving unemployment pay at the latest known date; and when the proposed new factory for their employment will be started.
§ Mr. IsaacsAt 17th October there were 264 disabled persons registered as unemployed in the Newport area, of whom 47 were in need of sheltered employment. The hon. Member will be aware that it has been necessary to slow down the programme of building for Remploy factories, and as a result of this it is not expected that the work on the factory at Newport will start before the second half of 1950.
