§ Sir Stafford CrippsThe profits of the brewing industry for the accounting year ending in the Income Tax year 1947–48 are estimated at £49 million after allowance for wear and tear of plant and machinery and after deducting Excess Profits Tax and Profits Tax. This figure includes profits arising from trade ancillary to the main business. Information about the profits in 1948–49 is not yet available. I regret that I am unable to give information about the profits of the distilling industry.
