Member asks is not available and its extraction from the education accounts of local authorities for the latest available year (1946–47) would entail a disproportionate expenditure of time and labour which in present circumstances I do not feel justified in undertaking. The hon. Member will see the general trend of the total expenditure of authorities on aid to pupils by reference to the table on page 6 of the Memorandum on the Estimates of my Department for 1949–50.
