HC Deb 02 November 1949 vol 469 cc51-2W
79. Mr. Astor

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations whether His Majesty's Government have accepted the invitation from Dr. Malan to a conference on African problems.

Mr. Gordon-Walker

I assume that the hon. Member refers to the African Regional Scientific Conference which was recently convened by the Union Government at Johannesburg. The Conference was held from 17th to 28th October, and was attended by representatives of the United Kingdom and Colonial Governments in Africa, as well as by representatives of Southern Rhodesia, France, Belgium and Portugal.
