§ Mr. Palmerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if there has been any improvement in the food situation 115W in Long Cay, Crooked Island and Aclin Island of the Bahamas group; and whether steps are being taken by the authorities to prevent a recurrence of the near-famine conditions which existed among the native population during the drought of last Summer.
Mr. Creech JonesThe food situation in the islands is reported to be quite satisfactory at present. Recent rains have made the crop prospects good. A programme of works is being carried out, which will alleviate conditions should any unexpected crop failure occur.
