HC Deb 04 May 1949 vol 464 c52W
23. Mr. T. Reid

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, in view of the fact that there are about 40,000 registered would-be emigrants in Malta, what is being done to secure passages for them in British ships.

Mr. Rees-Williams

The Malta Government have recently made representations to His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom about their difficulties in obtaining passages for Maltese emigrants to Australia. As a result His Majesty's Government have so far made arrangements to provide during this year 900 passages for Maltese emigrants to Australia in British ships.
