§ 19. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what further steps he now proposes to take to ensure that Africans employed in the production of groundnuts in East Africa will receive collective as well as individual benefit from the scheme; and whether he will consider an African native welfare and development plan to operate simultaneously and in conjunction with the progress of the groundnut production plan.
Mr. Creech JonesThe provision of welfare services for African employees, in co-operation with the Tanganyika Government, is an essential feature of the groundnut scheme to which both the Minister of Food and I attach great importance. The Overseas Food Corporation are fully alive to their responsibilities in the matter, and no separate plan is necessary for this purpose.
